God the American left can be pathetic sometimes. Did you really think that health care reform was really going to be easy. Come on now! The fact of the matter is that the Left has to fight harder than the right to get anything done. The Right's main purpose is to consolidate the power of the elites whereas the left is changing the status quo and expanding power to those who are not part of the elite. Sometimes that involves creating a policy that doesn't fit our ideals. Social Security, the Clean Air Act didn't start off as comprehensive as they are now. This is not to say that we shouldn't give up on the public option. (By the way, I still don't think the White House is giving up on the public option contrary to some leftist who get off on defeatism). Change is never easy. There are many road blocks to change that we must overcome to get to the destination point.
We should follow the wise words of Frederick Douglass:
"If there is no struggle there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation...want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightening. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters.... Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."
These are words of inspiration and perspective. Now some may be thinking what does the abolition movement has to do with healthcare reform in light of the fact that the Civil War ended slavery, that's beside the point. The point is that power concedes nothing. Right now we are seeing that with the townhall disruptions(which contrary to the media they are not as numerous as many believe them to be), lies and misinformation about reform and trolls who are sowing discord within the left and/or to dampen their spirits. Remember that the Left must persevere because we have facts and morality on our side.
