I always had a running suspicion that the Democrats were complicit in the Bush torture regime. Please note that even if the Dems were complicit Bush et al are not absolved from wrongdoing. The CIA briefing confirms this suspicion. But I am also skeptical as to the veracity of the document because the timing of making this public is rather suspicious. After all it came about when Obama made the torture memos were made public. I also remember that the CIA played a role in falsifying documents to support the claim that Saddam Hussein and Al Queda were in cahoots. We now that this was patently false. My point is that we need to look the context that this happened. Lets not get sway by the beltway media and Republicans who have an interest in painting some Dems as hypocrites to cover up their complicity in supporting the torture regime that was based on fear, chauvinism and racism.
Skepticism regarding these CIA documents, doesn't excuse the Democrats especially since they never stood up to Bush. They were more afraid of being called unpatriotic rather than doing the right thing. Right now I think Obama should do a bi-partisan commission to get to the bottom of things. The only challenge that I see is appointing people who will work in good faith. The way Republicans are acting makes it difficult to see that happening but such commission is necessary to move on.
